Biomass - stems
that can’t be sold for anything else, and tops and limbs. Chipped
on site and sold for fuel.
Boltwood - short (8’), usually small logs used in turnery and other manufactured wood
products; like tongue depressors, popsicle sticks, toothpicks, and golf tees.
Lumber - made from
sawlogs
OSB - (O)riented (S)trand
(B)oard – plywood-like sheets made from chipped pulp
Pallet logs - the lowest grade logs from which boards are sawn. Most used to produce wooden pallets and packing crates.
Paper - made from pulp
Plywood - made from
Veneer
Pulp - used to
make paper and cardboard, can also be chipped.
Sawlogs - used to make
dimension lumber, like 2x4s; and boards.
Tie-logs - used to
make railroad ties. Generally lower quality than Sawlogs
but must be 100% sound.
Veneer - logs
peeled or sliced into thin layers that are glued together to make plywood. Also a thin layer of high quality wood, like cherry, glued to
a solid core of lower quality wood, like red maple, to make you think you bought solid cherry
furniture.
